Wind Power Capacity addition during first half of Financial Year 2008-09

As per the information available, it is estimated that around 700 MW capacity of Wind Power Project has been added in India during the first half of Financial Year 2008-09 (i.,e. April 2008 to September ‘2008) . With this addition, total installed capacity of Indian Wind Power is estimated to be around 9400 MW. Manufacturer wise capacity addition is as follows:

MNRE Holds Meeting for Wind Power Development
|

Ministry of New & Renewable Energy
(MNRE), Govt. of India held a meeting on 15.09.08 to discuss
various issues related to Wind Power Development in India .
Meeting was attended by representative of C-WET, SNAs, SEBs,
SERCs, IWTMA, IWPA & INWEA.
MNRE Meeting major issues discussed in the meeting are listed below:-
- Need of Re-assessment of Wind Power
Potential of the country.
- Review of issue of
validity of Wind Mast data for an area of 10 km x 10
km.
- Possibility of reduction
of C-WET’s fees for validation of Wind Data
- Preparation of National
Renewable Energy Law.
- Framing of policy on
re-powering and intercropping. Finalization of report by
WISE on re-powering/intercropping.
- Introduction of Green Cess
of 2 Paise / kwh in other states on the pattern of
Maharashtra.
- Possibility of evacuation
of surplus wind power during in peak generation to other
regions/states.
- Requirement of manpower
development at various levels
- Issues related to RPO,
Regulatory frame work, power evacuation, land
clearance.
- Simplification of
procedure for forest land.
- Possibility of enhancement
of accelerated depreciation rate
- Possibility of enhancement
of generation based incentive rate & removing the cap
of 49 MW.
- Need of special steps to
be taken by
Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat &
Rajasthan for Wind Power Development
- Need of creation of data
base of electricity generation from wind and to make
available in the public domain.

C-WET to prepare WIND ATLAS
|
|
It is learnt that Centre for Wind Energy Technology (C-WET) is preparing a Wind Atlas for India. This Wind Atlas for India is expected to be ready by March 2009.

APERC Extends RPO Order
|
|
Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC) has extended its Renewable Power Purchase Obligations (RPO) order dated 27.09.2005 up to 30th November 2008. The said order was valid for a period of 3 years from 2005-06 to 2007-08 and had to expire by 31st March 2008.

Govt. of India has fixed a target of adding 10500 MW of new Wind Power Capacity for 11th 5 year plan.

GERC to hold hearing on RPO.
|
|
Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (GERC) has scheduled hearing on review of Regulation NO 15/2005 related to Procurement of Energy from Renewable Energy (Renewable Purchase Obligations) on 22nd October 2008 at GERC office in Ahmedabad.

TNERC Restrains TNEB from collection IDC
|
|
Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission (TNERC) vide its order dated 19.09.08 has restrained TNEB from collecting Infrastructure Development Charges (IDC) @ Rs, 28.75 Lac per MW from Wind Power Developers and allowed to collect only the actual cost of interfacing lines, switchgear, metering, protection arrangement and other related equipments up to the interconnection point.

AES Explores Possibility of WEG Manufacture in India

It is learnt that USA based company AES is exploring the possibility of manufacturing of Wind Electric Generators in India.

RRB Energy Plans to Manufacture Higher Rating WEG
|
|
It is learnt that RRB Energy Ltd is planning to start manufacturing of around 2 MW rating WEGs in India soon.

ITC Commissions Windfarm Project in Tamil Nadu
|
|
It is learnt that ITC Ltd. has recently commissioned an aggregate capacity of 14 MW Wind Power Projects in Tamil Nadu. Under this project 4 Nos. Vestas India’s make 1650 kW WEGs have been installed in Theni District near Madurai and 5 Nos. Suzlon make 1500 kW WEGs have been installed in Radhapuram Taluka in Tirunelveli District.

It is learnt that Integral Coach Factory of Indian Railway is planning to install a 10 MW Wind Power Project in Tamil Nadu.

It is learnt that Punj Lloyd an Indian Engineering & Construction Company is exploring the possibility of manufacturing wind turbines in India.

Sterling Infotech to set up Wind turbine manufacturing plant.
|
|
Sterling Infotech Group (SIG) which has acquired Finland based Wind turbine manufacturer Win WinD in the year 2006 is setting up a wind turbine manufacturing plant in India near Chennai. Initially the Company plans to manufacturer 1 MW rating turbine and subsequently go for 3 MW rating turbines.

World Institute of Sustainable Energy (WISE), Pune is organizing a conference-cum-Exhibition on Wind Power titled “WIND INDIA 2008’ on 25th & 26th November 2008 at Chennai. WISE in association with Garrad Hassan and Partners Ltd. U.K. is also organizing two-day international programme on ‘Windfarm development and financing’ on 27th & 28th November 2008 at Chennai, India.
