Dr.Farooq Abdullah is new Minister for New and Renewable Energy

Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Dr.Farooq Abdullah took over as the Minister for New and Renewable Energy. This is for the first time a Cabinet Minister has been given the charge of Renewable Energy Sector.

AMSC Windtec Expands To India

American Superconductor Corporation (AMSC) announced that its wholly owned AMSC Windtec subsidiary has licensed its proprietary 2 megawatt (MW) doubly-fed induction Generator wind turbine design to Inox Wind Limited, part of India’s Inox Group of Companies (Inox). The license provides Inox with the right to manufacture and sell the wind turbines globally.

NTPC Plans Two Wind Power Projects To End Portfolio

It is learnt that country’s largest power generation company, NTPC Ltd, plans to spend Rs.60 billion to set up two wind power projects of 500 MW each in Karnataka and Tamilnadu.

Suzlon To Expand Overseas Offerings

It is learnt that Suzlon Energy Ltd, plans to focus on downstream activities in the wind sector this fiscal. The company whose business comprises 70% exports, is looking at providing services such as maintenance of turbines, servicing of equipments, managing of windmills and other maintenance work, for its overseas clients. However, manufacturing wind turbines will continue to be main driver of Suzlon's business.

IDFC Pvt Equity To Invest Rs.30 Billion in Power Projects.

It is learnt that Green Infra Ltd, promoted by IDFC private equity fund, is set to invest over Rs.30 billion in renewable power generation in India by the end of the current plan period (2012). A major chunk-around 300 MW would come from wind energy.

IFC To Pump $140 Million Into Tanti’s Project

It is learnt that IFC, the World Bank arm that provides funding for the private sector in developing countries , is planning to invest 140 million dollars in the Tanti group’s wind energy project in Inner Mongolia, China.

ONGC Examining Wind Energy Feasibility

It is learnt that ONGC is shelving a proposed wind energy project in Karnataka, but is going ahead with a second one in Gujarat. The public sector giant had signed an agreement with Suzlon Energy for a 50 MW wind- farm unit at Bhuj, for its own consumption.

Shriram Group Arm To Sell Windmill

It is learnt that SCUF, part of the diversified shriram group, has decided to sell its non-core assets of three windmills units situated in Tamilnadu and one windmill unit in Karnataka.
